Amd1:2024 Document Publication

In support of the "London Declaration on Climate Change", the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) considered the need to consider the impact of Climate Change on the ability of the management system to achieve its intended outcomes, and decided to add two new text expressions to a set of existing management system standards and to incorporate them into all new standards being developed/revised.

On the other hand, ISO 9001:2015/Amd 1:2024, ISO 14001:2015/Amd 1:2024, ISO/IEC 27001:2022/Amd 1:2024 documents were published.

Accordingly, the following were added to the relevant articles of the standards;

4.1

The organization must determine if there is an issue related to climate change.

4.2

NOTE: Interested parties may have requirements related to climate change.

The purpose of the changes; In addition to all other issues, it is to ensure that climate change issues are evaluated by the organization in the context of the effectiveness of the management system.

The requirements for clauses 4.1 and 4.2 remain unchanged in their general purpose. Both items currently include the need for organizations to consider all internal and external considerations that may affect the effectiveness of the management system. Newly added text emoticons; It is emphasized that climate change is an external factor that is important enough to be taken into account within the management system and that organizations should take it into account immediately.

Expectations from Certified Organizations

Certified organizations must ensure that they take into account Climate Change considerations and risks as part of the development, maintenance and effectiveness of their own management systems. It should be determined whether Climate Change is related to other issues, and if it is relevant, it should be evaluated within the scope of risk assessment within the scope of management systems standards. Where an organisation operates more than one management system (e.g., Quality Management and Occupational Health and Safety Management), it should ensure that Climate Change is assessed under each management system standard if it is found to be relevant.

It is noted that some climate change considerations and risks may be of a general nature (for example, when related to regulatory compliance or operational compliance and organizational resilience), regardless of the applicable management system scope or sector.

Others will be indexed in particular to the requirements of management system standards, specific sectors (e.g. power generation, agriculture and fisheries) and the specifics of the organization (e.g. geographical location, nature of the supply chain or labor dynamics).

Impact on 3rd party audits;

As mentioned above, Climate Change-related issues that affect the context of an organization's management system(s) are often already considered by organizations.

Therefore, in accordance with the final text published in the audits carried out by Key Quality, this issue will be questioned in more detail in the audits related to the organization and its context. Where, as is normal practice, a certified body cannot demonstrate consideration of all internal and external issues identified as relevant, including Climate Change, an appropriate finding will be provided.

Management system standards will go through the ISO amendment process, but there is no need to issue a revised certificate if the following are taken into account:

  • The year of publication of each Management System standard will not change.
  • There is no change in the application scope of the Certified Management System.
  • There is no significant impact on the effectiveness of the Certified Management System.

The methods and actions that certified organizations will ultimately implement due to the new requirement will be similar to the methods and actions they will implement in the event of future changes in other contextual issues that they currently address within the Management system.
